Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and universal health coverage (UHC)

27 March, 2019

On 20 March 2019, Sexual and Reproductive Health Matters co-organised a lunch meeting alongside the the World Health Organisation Policy and Coordination Committee (PCC) meeting with the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn & Child Health (PMNCH) and colleagues at the Human Reproduction Programme of WHO (HRP) to discuss sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and universal health coverage (UHC).

The aim of this meeting was to brainstorm SRHR and UHC with the focus on rights, equality and accountability, taking into consideration the valuable work that is happening in this area, including the most recent PMNCH’s “Call to action: SRHR an essential element to achieving universal health coverage”, and the opportunity provided by the initiative of SRHM to dedicate its 2020 May journal issue to the topic.

SRHM plans to launch the call for papers for this journal issue as a platform for knowledge and action with a focus on rights, equality and accountability perspectives.

The meeting provided an opportunity to take stock of ongoing work in this area, introduce the SRHM initiative, highlight PMNCH’s call to action and other co-existing initiatives as entry points for action, and specify the opportunities for joint and harmonised engagement.
